Dumb Don and Iran

Dumb Don could have solved the Iran problem at no cost to America in the first five minutes of his first term in office a decade ago.  Publius even showed him how on September 1, 2016, two months before he was elected President.

It’s so simple.  Iran is the oldest continually existing nation on earth—5,000 years—because it sits at, and exploited, the crossroads of a giant X of global trade.  On one axis is China, on another is South Asia, on another is the Mediterranean and on another is North Africa.  Iran exists because it never stopped exploiting its X markets.  It is a merchant nation first and foremost.

In exploiting Iran's desire for business, Don held all the cards the moment he entered office:  build on Obama’s Iran deal by offering free trade with NAFTA and the EU in return for denuclearization.  Twelve words.  So much money for Iranians that the mullahs would have been eliminated before you could say “Ayatollah”.  And at no cost to America or its allies.

Don would have turned all eyes in the Middle East on him.  Every nation in the place would have asked for the same, fantastic deal.  Iran would have become the center of Middle Eastern stability and a key U.S. ally.  Nobel Prize?  In a second.  Golden statues of Don with his Communist salute?  Dozens of them.

Critically, countries enmeshed in the last three quarters of a century of intra-semitic Middle Eastern wars like Gaza, Lebanon and Syria would have begged for Don’s Iran deal.  Hamas and Hezbollah would have vanished as standards of living went through the roof.

Some of the benefits:

  • No October 7th.

  • And so no Israeli genocide in Gaza.

  • Israel’s global standing would have gone way up, not way down.

  • Three quarters of a century of intra-semitic wars would have ended.

  • All resulting in the complete derisking of the Middle East.

  • At no cost to America.

Instead, the Dumb Boy waited for a decade and then joined Israel in a pointless war against Iran, thinking he could bomb 5,000 years into non-existence.  And call himself a victor and peacemaker!

Crazier still, on returning to office in 2025, Dumb Don spent his first year carefully and systematically destroying all the global alliances that he knew he would need against Iran.  Canada being the most staggeringly stupid example.  Then, when, as he so studiously planned, they all refused to support him against Iran, he called them “cowards”.

Now there is the closing of the Strait of Hormuz, a key channel in global oil trade.  A simple glance at a map tells anyone with even a modicum of common sense that a war with Iran means closure of the Strait.  And skyrocketing oil prices.  A year ago, Publius paid $3.09 a gallon for gas.  Now it is $6.50.

So here we are, locked in a purposeless, endless and costly war that is driving an equally endless oil price crisis.  All started by a President who insists that we rely on super expensive oil rather than money-making, cost-efficient and scalable green energy.

By spending so much effort to eliminate all America’s core alliances and then manufacturing a global energy price crisis, Dumb Don has succeeded at destroying America’s global standing.  It may take a half century to rebuild, if ever.

In the race to beat Buchanan as America’s worst President, Dumb Don is doing a really great job.

Putin is probably happy with the higher oil prices, the weakening/destruction of NATO, the distraction from the Ukrainian quagmire, and the regional chaos. I'm not saying that Don is following the wishes of his handler but . . .
